以賽亞書 29：11-14

11 所有異象的意義都對你們隱藏起來，像一本封閉著的書卷。你們拿這書卷去請飽學之士讀，他一定告訴你們，他不能讀，因為這書卷是封閉著的。
12 你們請目不識丁的人讀，他會告訴你，他不會讀。
13 主說：「這人民認為他們在敬拜我呢！他們用唇舌尊敬我，他們的心卻遠離我。他們的宗教僅是人間的一些規條傳統，熟讀背誦而已。
14 因此，我要再出其不意地打擊他們，使他們震驚。他們當中，聰明人的聰明將毫無價值；精明人的精明將毫無用處。」

11 And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”
12 And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read.”
13 nd the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

封住的書卷
官方文件寫在蒲草卷或皮紙卷軸上，存放或是由信差發出去的時候，卷起來用細繩與印章封起來（王上二十一8；耶三十二10～11）。封印有可能是戒指或是圖章，蓋在蠟油或是泥土上，稱作「璽」（伯三十八14）。考古學家找到很多這種泥印，上面有以色列的官員名字。
