1 那些到埃及去求救的人要遭殃了！他們倚賴埃及龐大的軍力—戰馬、戰車，和步兵，卻不倚靠以色列神聖的上帝，不求上主的幫助。
2 可是，上帝有更大的智慧，他要懲罰作惡的人和袒護他們的人。他定意要降災禍，絕不改變。
3 埃及人並不是神；他們不過是人。他們的馬又不是神駒。上主一伸手，強國也要瓦解，它所扶助的弱國也要滅亡；兩者同歸於盡。
4 上主這樣對我說：「正像獅子或幼獅捕到了一隻野獸，任憑牧羊人怎樣吆喝叫喊，牠們也不怕也不慌。同樣，我—上主、萬軍的統帥要保護錫安山；沒有人能加以阻止。

1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!
2 And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.
3 The Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together.
4 or thus the LORD said to me, “As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called out against him he is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise, so the LORD of hosts will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its hill.

埃及的角色
在希西家執政時期，以努比亞為主的埃及第二十五王朝與法老沙巴卡不斷地想要煽動敘利亞—巴勒斯坦民族反抗亞述。西拿基立記載他的主前七○一年戰役，曾遠至離埃及邊境一百哩的伊利提基（Eltekeh）。約西亞時代，法老森美忒庫一世則趁亞述在亞述巴尼帕執政末期、國力衰弱之際與其分庭抗禮（主前627年歿）。他也曾夢想擴張埃及勢力，但是因巴比倫崛起而受挫。
