治理宇宙 在古代近東是眾神之首給宇宙帶來次序。在《埃努瑪埃利什》（巴比倫創世史詩），瑪爾杜克神打敗查馬特女神以後，「橫跨天空，視察各地；調整阿普蘇的地盤、努丁穆德的居所，並且測量了阿普蘇的空間。」他接著又組織了星座、代表神的星辰，以及其他天體。
