以賽亞書 53：4-6

4 但是，他承當了我們的憂患；
他擔負了我們該受的痛苦。
我們反認為他該受責罰，
該受上帝的鞭打和苦待。
5 為我們的罪惡，他被刺傷；
為我們的過犯，他挨毒打。
因他受責罰，我們得痊癒；
因他受鞭打，我們得醫治。
6 我們都像一群迷失的羊，
各走自己的路。
但我們一切的過犯，
上主都使他替我們承當。

4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

疾病得醫治 烏加列神話中，巴力和摩特的征戰包括了拉庇烏瑪（Rapiuma，救贖者、醫治者）的故事，由死而覆活的巴力為首。這些受景仰的祖先被認為是會為著活人介入。他們醫治凡人的疾病，幫助生產力，保守他們遠離社會罪惡。不過拉庇烏瑪自己沒有擔負凡人的病痛。
