以賽亞書 60：19-22

19 白天，你不再需要太陽；
夜晚，你不再需要月亮。
我—你的上主是你永遠的光；
我—你的上帝的榮光要照耀你。
20 太陽永不下山；
月亮也永不隱藏。
我—你的上主是你永遠的光；
你悲傷的日子將要終止。
21 你的人民要秉公行義；
他們要永遠繼承這地。
我親手造他們，培養他們，
為的是要彰顯我的榮耀。
22 你們最小的家要成為大族，
最弱的族要成為強國。
我是上主；
在時機成熟時，
我—上主要使這事迅速發生。

19 The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
20 our sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.
21 our people shall all be righteous; they shall possess the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I might be glorified.
22 The least one shall become a clan, and the smallest one a mighty nation; I am the LORD; in its time I will hasten it.

日月廢棄 日頭和月亮在巴比倫眾神榜中都是重要的神祇。太陽神是沙馬士，也是正義之神，是月神的兒子。沙馬士給予巴比倫立法人漢摩拉比權柄來制訂法律。月神辛是月歷和植物之神，他的伴侶是寧葛爾（Ningal），也就是沙馬士的母親。雖然他的主要據點是在吾珥跟哈蘭，卻在巴比倫最後一位國王拿波尼度執政期間，在巴比倫居重要角色。由於這些神祇在古代世界的宗教系統中居核心地位，沒有其他文獻提到他們可能會遭廢棄或失去作用。
