耶利米書8章4-7節

8:4 上主吩咐我向他子民這樣說：「人跌倒了，不想站起來嗎？人迷了路，不想回頭嗎？
8:5 我的子民哪，你們為什麼背叛到底，一去不還呢？你們緊抓住偶像，不肯回到我這裡來。
8:6 我細心地聽，可是你們不說出心底話。沒有人為自己的惡行懺悔；沒有人自省『我究竟做錯了什麼』，每一個人都一意孤行，好像戰馬朝著戰場奔馳。
8:7 唉！連鸛鳥都知道季候，定期飛回來；斑鳩、燕子、白鶴也都隨季節遷移。但是我的子民哪，你們竟不懂得我的法則！

8:4 “You shall say to them, Thus says the LORD: When men fall, do they not rise again? If one turns away, does he not return?
8:5 Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.
8:6 I have paid attention and listened, but they have not spoken rightly; no man relents of his evil, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone turns to his own course, like a horse plunging headlong into battle.
8:7 Even the stork in the heavens knows her times, and the turtledove, swallow, and crane keep the time of their coming, but my people know not the rules of the LORD.
今天的經文在文體上屬於詩，會一直延續到9章。內容上述說先知耶利米表達他認為這些百姓的選擇和作為是極為反常與不合理的。人跌倒會爬起來，但是這些上主的子民離開了卻不回來，也不如禽鳥一般遵守上主的法則。
