耶利米書8章13-17節

8:13 「我要結集我的子民，像收穫農作物。但他們像葡萄樹不結葡萄，像無花果樹不結果實，連葉子都枯乾了。所以，我容許外國人來佔據他們的土地。」
8:14 上帝的子民問：「我們為什麼還坐著不動呢？起來，跑到設防的城，就死在那裡吧！上主—我們的上帝已經定我們死罪。他給我們毒水喝，因為我們得罪了他。
8:15 我們期待和平，希望得到醫治，卻沒有效果，反而飽受驚慌。
8:16 敵人已經到了但，我們聽得見戰馬在噴氣。戰馬嘶鳴，大地震動。敵人要來摧毀我們的土地和地上的一切；他們要來消滅我們的城鎮和居民。」
8:17 上主警告他的子民說：「看哪，我要把毒蛇放在你們中間，用符咒也不能驅走牠們；牠們要咬傷你們。」

8:13 When I would gather them, declares the LORD, there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has passed away from them.”
8:14 Why do we sit still? Gather together; let us go into the fortified cities and perish there, for the LORD our God has doomed us to perish and has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.
8:15 We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror.
8:16 “The snorting of their horses is heard from Dan; at the sound of the neighing of their stallions the whole land quakes. They come and devour the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it.
8:17 For behold, I am sending among you serpents, adders that cannot be charmed, and they shall bite you,” declares the LORD.
今天的經文中，描述先知傳達上主決定要完全滅絕這些百姓，敵人一定會來攻擊此地。
