耶利米書8章18-9章1節

8:18 我悲傷不已；我心愁煩。
8:19 我到處聽見同胞哀鳴：上主不在錫安了嗎？錫安的王不在城裡了嗎？上主—他們的君王回答：你們為什麼拜偶像？為什麼拜虛無的外國神明，激怒了我？
8:20 人民呼號：夏季過去了，收成結束了，我們仍然沒有得救！
8:21 同胞的創傷使我心碎；我悲痛萬分，驚憂不已。
8:22 難道基列沒有膏藥嗎？難道那裡沒有醫生嗎？為什麼我的同胞沒得到醫治呢？
9:1 但願我的頭顱是水井，眼睛是淚泉，我好日夜為被殺的同胞哭泣。

8:18 My joy is gone; grief is upon me; my heart is sick within me.
8:19 Behold, the cry of the daughter of my people from the length and breadth of the land: “Is the LORD not in Zion? Is her King not in her?” “Why have they provoked me to anger with their carved images and with their foreign idols?”
8:20 “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.”
8:21 For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me.
8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?
9:1 Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
今天的經文，一般認為這段經文是耶利米獲稱流淚的先知的主要原因，但也可以視為上主才是主要的說話者，因為 8:19 9:3,6,9 幾處明顯是神說話。另外，這段經文常用「我百姓」這個主人對附屬國常用的字眼也是線索之一。所以這段可以視為神對於百姓如此犯罪的憂傷愁苦，並透過耶利米來表達。
