耶利米書9章22-26節

9:22 遍地橫屍，像田野裡的糞堆，像割下的麥穗，沒人撿起。上主命令我這樣宣布了。
9:23 上主這樣說：智者不可誇耀自己的智慧；勇士不可誇耀自己的力氣；富人不可誇耀自己的財富。
9:24 人若要誇耀，應該誇耀認識我，明白我；因為我是上主，我有不變的愛。我執行公道，伸張正義；我喜愛的就是這些。我—上主這樣宣布了。
9:25 上主說：「有一天，我要懲罰埃及人、猶大人、以東人、亞捫人、摩押人，和住在曠野那剪短了頭髮的民族。他們在肉體上都受過割禮，但他們和以色列人在心靈上都沒有受割禮，不遵守割禮所象徵的約。」

9:22 Speak: “Thus declares the LORD, ‘The dead bodies of men shall fall like dung upon the open field, like sheaves after the reaper, and none shall gather them.’”
9:23 Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,
9:24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”
9:25 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh—
9:26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”
今天的經文中，直接說明了人應當以認識上主以及上主的法則來誇口，割禮不但沒用，上主還要懲罰那些有割禮外表，卻沒有割禮實際的人。
有學者認為 9:23-26 可能是針對 9:12 的提問回應。9:23-24 提到三個人最常誇耀的東西：智慧、能力、財富，但這邊指出唯一值得誇耀的就是「認識神」。如果不是真心歸向神，那割禮只是切割包皮，洗禮不過是洗澡或洗頭。這些盟約的儀式，對我們到底是什麼意義呢？
