耶利米書11章18-23節

11:18 上主把敵人陰謀殺害我的事告訴我。
11:19 我像一隻馴良的小羊被拉到屠宰場，卻不曉得他們的陰謀。他們說：「趁著這樹茂盛的時候把它砍掉。來吧，我們把他殺了，使他的名不再被記念！」
11:20 於是我禱告說：「上主—萬軍的統帥啊，你是公正的審判官；你鑒察人的心思意念。我把我的案情交在你手中；求你讓我看見你替我伸冤。」
11:21 亞拿突人要殺害我，他們威脅我，不准我繼續宣揚上主的信息，如果我不聽，他們就要殺我。
11:22 所以上主、萬軍的統帥這樣說：「我要懲罰他們！他們的年輕人要橫屍沙場；他們的兒童要餓死街頭。
11:23 我已經選定時間要使亞拿突人滅亡。那時，沒有人能倖免。」

11:18 The LORD made it known to me and I knew; then you showed me their deeds.
11:19 But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.”
11:20 But, O LORD of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause.
11:21 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, and say, “Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand”—
11:22 therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: “Behold, I will punish them. The young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine,
11:23 and none of them shall be left. For I will bring disaster upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their punishment.”
今天的經文傳統上稱為耶利米的自白。上主指示耶利米：敵人計畫怎樣謀害他，但是上主將會為耶利米報仇。19節應該是指出耶利米在沒有結婚的狀況下，只要被殺，就沒有人會繼承、紀念。因此敵人認為只要除掉他，整個先知預言工作就會停止。亞拿突人直接威脅耶利米不可以說預言。他們大概以為耶利米是職業先知，可以控制自己的言論。或者他們以為只要耶利米不發言，上帝就不會刑罰猶大了。但這是因果錯置的，耶利米發言就是因為上帝非要刑罰猶大不可。
