耶利米書13章1-11節

13:1 上主這樣吩咐我：「去買一條麻紗腰帶束腰；但不要把它浸在水裡。」
13:2 於是我買了一條腰帶束上。
13:3 上主又告訴我：
13:4 「你到幼發拉底河去，把你所束的腰帶藏在石洞裡。」
13:5 我就遵從上主的命令到幼發拉底河去，把腰帶藏在那裡。
13:6 過些時候，上主吩咐我：「你到幼發拉底河去拿那條腰帶。」
13:7 我就回到那裡，找到藏腰帶的地方；我發現腰帶已經破爛不堪，再也不能用了。
13:8 接著，上主再向我說話。他說：
13:9 「我要照樣破壞猶大和耶路撒冷所誇耀的輝煌成就。
13:10 這班邪惡的人民不肯聽從我的命令。他們仍舊頑固邪惡，膜拜服事別的神明。因此，他們要像這條腰帶，再也沒有用處。
13:11 本來，我要所有以色列人和猶大人緊貼住我。正像腰帶貼在人身上。我要他們作我的子民，好讓我的聖名受稱頌，受尊重；但是他們不聽從我。」

13:1 Thus says the LORD to me, “Go and buy a linen loincloth and put it around your waist, and do not dip it in water.”
13:2 So I bought a loincloth according to the word of the LORD, and put it around my waist.
13:3 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time,
13:4 “Take the loincloth that you have bought, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.”
13:5 So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.
13:6 And after many days the LORD said to me, “Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the loincloth that I commanded you to hide there.”
13:7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and I took the loincloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the loincloth was spoiled; it was good for nothing.
13:8 Then the word of the LORD came to me:
13:9 “Thus says the LORD: Even so will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
13:10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this loincloth, which is good for nothing.
13:11 For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the LORD, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.
今天的經文中，這個比喻似乎表示腰帶就是猶大和以色列，上帝要他們依附於上帝，讓上帝得榮耀。但是他們變壞了（不洗），於是上帝就讓他們被埋藏在巴比倫的幼發拉底河，作廢這個腰帶。
