耶利米書12章14-17節

12:14 上主這樣說：「至於那些鄰國，因侵佔了我賜給我子民以色列的土地，我要從本土把他們連根拔除；我要從他們中間把猶大搶救出來。
12:15 但是，我拔除了他們以後，要再憐憫他們，讓他們回歸故土。
12:16 要是他們誠心接受我子民的信仰，指著我—永生上主的名發誓，正像他們教我子民指巴力的名發誓，他們就能跟我子民共存，共享繁榮。
12:17 要是他們不聽從我，我就把他們連根拔除，徹底消滅。我—上主這樣宣布了。」

12:14 Thus says the LORD concerning all my evil neighbors who touch the heritage that I have given my people Israel to inherit: “Behold, I will pluck them up from their land, and I will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.
12:15 And after I have plucked them up, I will again have compassion on them, and I will bring them again each to his heritage and each to his land.
12:16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the LORD lives,’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.
12:17 But if any nation will not listen, then I will utterly pluck it up and destroy it, declares the LORD.”
今天的經文中，這段經文指出神是普世的至高統治者。其實在聖經中提到神對自己的子民既公義(審判)和慈愛的雙重主題很常見，但對於以色列的仇敵也是又警告又憐恤則相當少見，是本段特色之一。
