耶利米書16章5-9節

16:5 「你不可進入喪家，不要為任何人悲傷哀悼。我不再賜平安給我的子民，也不以慈愛憐憫待他們。
16:6 無論貧富同樣要死在這裡；沒有人埋葬他們，也沒有人哀悼他們。沒有人會砍傷自己或剃光頭髮為他們誌哀。
16:7 沒有人會跟喪家一起吃喝，為了他們親人的喪亡安慰他們，連喪父或喪母的人也沒有人表示同情。
16:8 「你也不可進入歡宴的家，跟他們吃喝。
16:9 我—上主、萬軍的統帥、以色列的上帝這樣說：我要使這地死氣沉沉，不再有歡笑，也不再有婚宴喜慶的聲音。他們有生之日要親身經歷這些事。

16:5 “For thus says the LORD: Do not enter the house of mourning, or go to lament or grieve for them, for I have taken away my peace from this people, my steadfast love and mercy, declares the LORD.
16:6 Both great and small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them or cut himself or make himself bald for them.
16:7 No one shall break bread for the mourner, to comfort him for the dead, nor shall anyone give him the cup of consolation to drink for his father or his mother.
16:8 You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and drink.
16:9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will silence in this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
今天的經文，上帝要耶利米不可去弔喪或宴樂，以便傳達戰爭時期，遍地都有喪事，百姓也不會互相弔喪的狀態。宴樂的事情也將要因為戰爭停止。
