耶利米書25章8-11節

25:8 「因為你們不聽從他，所以上主—萬軍的統帥這樣說：
25:9 『瞧吧，我要徵召北方的諸民族和我的僕人巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒來攻擊這地和所有的居民，也要攻擊周圍所有的國家。我要消滅他們，使這地和鄰國永遠荒廢，成為令人驚駭唾棄的地方。我—上主這樣宣布了。
25:10 我要使他們不再有歡笑，也不再有婚宴喜慶的聲音。他們的燈盞沒有油；他們的石磨上沒有穀物。
25:11 這片土地要荒廢，成為令人恐怖的地方。列國要臣服巴比倫王七十年。

25:8 “Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words,
25:9 behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the LORD, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.
25:10 Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the grinding of the millstones and the light of the lamp.
25:11 This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
今天的經文，描述上帝決定用尼布甲尼撒攻擊猶大和四圍的國民，滅絕他們七十年。「七十年」：可能是由「尼布甲尼撒於西元前605年進攻耶路撒冷」開始計算，到西元前535年塞魯士(古列王)下詔准許所有被擄去巴比倫的外邦人士歸回（代下 36:21 ; 拉 1:1-5 ），前後共七十年。或由「西元前586年聖殿被毀」開始計算。不過以前者較多人接受。
