耶利米書7章16-20節

7:16 上主說：「耶利米呀，不要替這些人禱告，也不要為他們哀求。你不要向我祈求，因為我不聽。
7:17 難道你沒有看見他們在猶大各城鎮，在耶路撒冷的大街小巷做些什麼嗎？
7:18 他們的兒女收集木柴，父親點火，母親揉麵團做供餅，獻給他們的女神天后。他們也向別的神明奠酒，故意激怒我。
7:19 其實，他們不是傷害我，而是傷害自己，自取其辱。
7:20 所以，我—至高的上主要把忿怒傾瀉在這座聖殿，也要傾瀉在人、動物、樹木，和五穀上面。我的忿怒像烈火燃燒，沒有人能撲滅。

7:16 “As for you, do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with me, for I will not hear you.
7:17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
7:18 The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
7:19 Is it I whom they provoke? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves, to their own shame?
7:20 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.”
今天的經文是說明上主看到耶路撒冷城，全城同心合力敬拜其他的神，導致怒火中燒，命令先知不能為這種百姓代求。聖經中上主處罰「人和牲畜」，是很普遍的，如同出埃及記8:13-14，但此處提及「樹木、農產」卻是別處經文所沒有的。
