以賽亞書 40：27-28

27 以色列啊，你為什麼埋怨，
以為上主不知道你的苦難？
認為上帝不關心你遭受的冤枉？
28你不知道嗎？你沒有聽見嗎？
上主是永恆的上帝。
他創造了全世界。
他不疲乏，也不困倦；
他的智慧高深莫測。

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”?
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

神明不知道或是疲憊 古代近東的神祇也有凡人的軟弱，常常疏忽，甚至根本不知道發生了什麽事，所以神與神之間也常常彼此鬥智、計誘。例如，恩里勒以水災毀滅人類，恩基卻救了一個剩下的人類，智取恩里勒。但是他勸他所救的亞達帕在亞奴面前拒絕「死亡之餅」，卻不知自己被耍，因為亞奴最後給了亞達帕「生命之餅」，完全出乎恩基意料。古代近東的神也會累，常常需要食物、飲水、居處。事實上，神明造人是為了要人做那些自己不想做的勞累事。
